His naval record also shows:

- that he learnt his trade on the Training Ship Exmouth
- that he signed on for 10 years at age 18
- that he was disciplined/gaoled 3 times - receiving 14 days in cells and 28 and 30 days hard labour
(23.9.1990 on Buzzard and twice shortly after joining the Iron Duke - 11.12.1991 and 31.12.1991)
- that he was invalided out of Navy age 27

The Buzzard appears to have been my grandfather's favourite ship and he talked to my Dad about her:
