Introduction

Mary Ann Walland was my great grandmother who married George Frederick Brecht in Spitalfields in 1856.

Of the 16 family names I have researched, it can be said that 2 family trees were given to me "on a plate" including the Walland family tree.

Until then I set out thinking that Walland might have been a Huguenot name but it turned out that there had been a number of name variants and my ancestors came from Meldreth Cambridgeshire!
