My correspondent typed up the entries in Sybilla Shrub's diary:

"January, 1873

1 Wednesday
Very fine day. John went to Lymington. At 2 Peyto, John, Craig & I went to Southampton: lunched at Dartnells & then went to Pantomime at Theatre: the children much amused. Home at 7 Titt very tired.
2 Thursday
Very wet morning - John gone to the Farm; Miss Stowers called. After lunch John went to the well & later drove Warr to Lym- I read to Beverley& wrote several letters.
3 Friday
Wrote: Very wet day. John went to the farm etc. After lunch he drove me to Lym. Sat with Mrs. Sam, & found Mrs Shedden there. Had tea at Mrs. St. Barbe’s with Annie. Heavy thunder & lightening in the middle of the day.
4 Saturday
Very wet day. John could not hunt – In the afternoon drove me to Annie’s where I sat till she went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s
January 5
Very wet day. John went to Church in the morn. I in the afternoon. Mrs. St. B. called

6 Monday
Very fine day. John went to Lymington and then to Ringwood. Peyto & I went to the Drive; Mr Shrubb & uncle Henry called, Mr Perceval Brine & Miss Stowers after lunch I called on Mrs Street, Mrs William Rooke Mrs. Cooper etc. wished Mrs Hinuber good bye.
7 Tuesday
Very fine day. Went up to the Drive in the morning; John up there too. After lunch John drove Peyto & I to Lymington walked about with Mrs, Sheddon & then sat with dear Bess. John went to Emily Peacocke’s ball at 10.30.
8 Wednesday
John very tired. I drove with him to the house. He lunched at Mr. Farnall’s, Titt walked quite alone to Mrs. Moens’, & from there to the house; in the afternoon I took Peyto Bella Craig & sister to a children’s party at Efford. Home at 7. Poor Bess not at all well.
9 Thursday
I walked to the Drive with Sister. John took Peyto & Titt there. John’s birthday. Very wet day, obliged to send for the pony cart to drive home. We did not go out all the afternoon – John saw cart for well made at Jenveys
10 Friday
Very fine day . Peyto drove me to Lymington in the pony cart. Went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s – John to the Farm. After lunch Peyto went to Mr. Oake’s John drove me to Brockenhurst, & we went to Southampton. Home at 7.
11 Saturday
John went out hunting at Holmsley Station. Very wet day after lunch I drove with Peyto to Lymington, he went to Mr. Oake. I sat with Mrs. St. B.
January 12
Very fine day. Sister & Peyto went to church, Titt & I strolled after lunch to the House. John dined at Vicar’s Hill.

13 Monday
Dull day. John went to the Union – not home till 3 – Bess Missie Peppie & Ba came at 12.30 Mr. Ashworth came. The children had an Xmas tree & fireworks. St Barbes, Ashworths, Farnalls, Cowies, Towseys, Fluders, Pynes, Duplessis, Mrs. Sam & Mrs, Sheddon from 4 till 7. Dr. Hill came to see me at 10.30
14 Tuesday
Wet day. John gone to the Farm. I sat in the nursery. Peyto gone to spend the afternoon at Mrs. Moens. John drove me after lunch to Lymington, I say with Mrs. St. Barbe till he fetched me., Col Peacocke lunched. I drove him to Efford. Poor Titt he had a stiff neck.
15 Wednesday
John went out shooting in the forest. I did not go out all day. Titt’s neck rather better. Peyto had a bad neck too. Sister went for a walk I read to Craig. Peyto & John went to the Drive. John went to Lady Dickson’s ball.
16 Thursday
Lovely mild day. John & Peyto went to the Drive. Walked there Mr Knapton & Captn Brine too. Peyto went to Mr.Oake’s & to a party at the Towsey’s in the evening. John drove me in little new cart from Woodside. I sat with Mrs. St. Barbe. Titt & sister dined at Vicar’s Hill.
17 Friday
John went to the Drive etc. After lunch I drove to Lymington & then to Efford where I had tea. Fine day.
18 Saturday
Wet day. John went out hunting at Beaulieu. After lunch he drove me to Lymington, I called on Mrs. Ellis, Mary Hill etc. John drove me home.
January 19
Very wet we could not go to Church, sister & I went in the afternoon

20 Monday
John went to London at 8 am to see Mr. Shaw; I drove to Lym with Peyto in the dog cart & Titt. Went to Mrs. St. B’s helped her all day - John fetched me at 5 Drove home dined – Went to theatrical at her house at 8. Very tired.
21 Tuesday
Much colder day. Drove up to the house in the morning with the children. After lunch went in to Mrs. St. Barbes John called for me there at 6.30. White & Potter went to theatricals.
22 Wednesday
Fine day. Went to the house in the morning Mr. Ashworth & ……. Blackwood there. After lunch John & I drove to the Farm & House & stayed till 4.30. He drove me to Lym & I sat with Annie & Bella Cold at night. The children went to Vicar’s Hill.
23 Thursday
Letter from May Elers. Very fine mild day. Maria went to the house with the children, John there. After lunch I drove Sister to Milford, called on Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Thelwall, Mrs. De la Tour etc.
24 Friday
Went up in the Drive in the morning, after lunch I drove to Lymington & then to Efford where I had tea. Day rather colder. 25 Saturday
Went up in the Drive in the morning with Peyto & the children dear Harri came, after lunch she drove me to Lymington we had tea at the Castles.
January 26
Harri, John, Walter & Peyto went to Church. Col. Peacocke lunched. We went to Church in the afternoon.

27 Monday
John went to Vicar’s Hill. Dear Peyto went back to Twyford. My poor Titt fell over the banisters & gave himself a bad bruise & black eye. Dr. Hill came. Nellie Castle lunched. John & Walter went to Brockenhurst. Harri drove Sister & I to Lym: to get ice for poor Titten.
28 Tuesday
Titten better. Fine day tho’ colder. Walked to the Drive with Walter & Harri. Walter went away & Harri a little later, John drove the tandem to Brockenhurst with them twice. The Ashworths and Mrs. Castle called. I drove Titten, Sister & Pearse in the pony cart to the Marl Pit Oak & Sway. Dr. Hill called.
29 Wednesday
Letter from Mrs. Warren etc. Day colder. I heard Titt read etc. Sister went out John drove to Lym. After lunch we walked to the Drive & stayed about there watching the planting, building etc. John went out shooting, wrote read etc.
30 Thursday
Titt & Sister went to Vicar’s Hill I wrote etc. John went shooting after lunch to Ipsley. Dr. Hill called. We did not go out after lunch – Miss Harding came & sat some time. Very cold & snow.
31 Friday Mrs. Juliana Symonds was buried at Boldre. Craig & Dickie walked to the Railway Arch. John went to “the Drive” and to Lym: after lunch I went to Efford and sat there till 5.30. Very cold. February
1 Saturday
John went to the Farm & then hunting at Marlpit Oak; but too cold for a run. After lunch John & Titt cut up & carried wood. John drove me to Lymington I sat with Mrs St Barbe. Mrs. Shedden there
February 2nd
The ground covered with snow. John went to church I read to Titt before & after lunch.

3 Monday
Very cold day. John took Titt up to the House. He went shooting in the Marsh at two or three different times in the day. He drove Warr to Lym: I did not go out all day. John went to theatricals at Lym in the evening.
4 Tuesday
The snow nearly thawed. The children & I did not go out all day. I heard Titt read etc; we worked. John went to the Drive & shot in the marsh. He dined with Mr. Ashworth. Letters from Edward Elers, Mrs. Peacocke etc.
5 Wednesday
Very cold. After lunch I drove sister & Beverley to Lymington did some shopping, went to Mrs. Sam’s where we had tea - Home by Passford.
6 Thursday
Beverley drove with me after lunch to call on Mrs. Freeman from there to Lymington, called on Sir Harry , Paul & Lady Burrard. Had tea at Mrs. Daniell’s went down to Annie’s to fetch Craig, & home.
7 Friday
Very cold day. John at the Farm went to Southampton at 1.40. Mrs. St. Barbe lunched. Afterwards we drove all round Sway etc. Left her at Lym. John not Home till 9.30.
8 Saturday
Very cold. John went out on “Bob” did not hunt. He drove me to Lym: I did some shopping, Called on Lady Caroline after Maturin’s, went to Annie’s Bella’s birthday (14) went home & found Harri.
February 9th
Very cold. Harri drove me to Church & back. “Tom” lunched went to the House & John drove him home. Dined at V.H. Snow.

10 Monday
Cold. The children went to the Drive John also. He went to the Board at 11 & took Harri to the Castles. I wrote. Sister & Craig gone to Vicar’s Hill – After lunch called on Lady Caroline at Mrs. Maturin’s a large party left with Mrs. St. Barbe & Mrs Shedden
11 Tuesday
Harri drove Craig & I into Lym in the pony cart to Mrs. Maturin's Mrs Cooper & Lady Burrard there. Bright but cold east wind. After Lunch Harri drove me to Lyndhurst, charming coming home. John in the …. I went to the Chinerys
12 Wednesday
Fine cold day. Harri walked with Sister & Craig to meet Miss Castle & Mrs. Sheepshanks who lunched. Mr. Shrubb came. After lunch they went home. Harri drove me to Lym. I went to Efford to tea – Harri drove me home.
13 Thursday
Very fine day. We went after lunch, Harri, Craig & I in the pony cart to Sway & on to call on Mrs. Raitt with whom we had tea, then drove to Lymington & shopped – Home.
14 Friday
The children had many Valentines. Nice mild day. Harri drove me to the Drive in the pony cart. After lunch She drove me down to the Beach with the ponies.
15 Saturday
Fine day. John hunted at Beaulieu. Harris walked to Lym to spend the day with the Castles. When John came in he drove me to Lym. I called on Mrs Shedden she came to Annie’s to see me. I had tea with Annie.
February 16
Letter from Bess. John went to see Mr. Mew. I did not go out.

17 Monday
John went to the “House” Dear Harri drove to the Brockenhurst Station, & I parted with her at 11. Very cold day. After lunch Mr. Shrubb came Drove John to the Drive He drove me to Dore’s & then to Lym. Had tea with Mrs. St. Barbe, Mrs. Sam, Annie, Mrs, H Daniell there.
18 Tuesday
John rode Bob round the Farm. He went to Ringwood by early train Home to lunch. Afterwards I drove to Lym & sat some time with the Hardings, Many people there, Very cold day. Browning brought flowers from Marchwood.
19 Wednesday
No letters. I wrote. John at the House. I drove up in the pony cart & drove the children home. Very cold dull day. Mrs. Sheepshanks & Miss Castle called . I did not go out in the afternoon.
20 Thursday
The children had colds & did not go out all day. John at the house morning & afternoon. I drove to Lym & back – Day very cold.
21 Friday
Went up to the house in the Pony Cart with John, drove to the farm & back there; Mrs. St. Barbe lunched. Drove to Lym at 4 & sat with her, Mrs. Shedden & Annie there.
22 Saturday
Fine, bright, & milder day. The children walked to the farm. I met them at the Bridge. After lunch drove them to Warr’s called at the Hockings’ Mrs. Sam’s Mary Hills, Mrs. St. B. Drove Tom home as far as Pennington. John hunted at Brock: Bridge.
February 23
Snowed etc. John went to Church. Mr. Mew lunched Went round farm.

24 Monday Very heavy fall of snow. John drove to the Union. It snowed all day. I worked in the Nursery with the children Craig did his wool work a kettle holder for Annie the second in a month. Pearse came back from her holiday at 6.30.
25 Tuesday
It rained hard all day, we did not go out. John went to Lymington. I worked , wrote & read.
26 Wednesday
Fine day. John went to the House, Farm etc. After lunch I went to see Mrs. Williams & Miss Windsor showed them my lace. Home at 5. Drove up to Vicars Hill to see how Mr. Shrubb was. Found him better, Sat some time there.
27 Thursday
John went up to the House, I drove up & took Craig. Went up again after lunch with both children to see large stove uncarted. John drove me to Lym I then went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s & had tea. Annie called. John went to see Mr. Mew.
28 Friday
It snowed. John drove to Brockenhurst to meet Mr. Shaw & Mr. Birch who both lunched here. Drove the former to Vicars Hill & Lymington. I called at Lady Norbury’s etc. spent the afternoon with Mrs. Shedden in her new house.
March
1 Saturday
Very wet day. John drove the ponies to Romsey & from there went about the country brick hunting, he got home at 7.30 very tired. I wrote & did a good deal of work. The children walked after dinner.
March 2
John & the children went to Church. I walked with Titt to the end of Hayward Farm Lane. John dined at V.H. The children walked.

3 Monday
Very wet morning. Wrote & worked. Dear Titt read. They walked after lunch. John went in the morning to the house & farm, in the afternoon he went to Pardey’s at Lym etc. I worked in the nursery.
4 Tuesday
Letters from dear Bess Mrs. Sam etc. John hunting at Bolton’s Bench. The children walked round Sandy Down. After Lunch drove the children to Mrs. Raitt’s & round by Flexford to Lymington & home. Dr. & Mary Hill lunched.
5 Wednesday
Very wet morning. John went to the farm, and house, after lunch John drove me in the pony cart and I sat with Mrs. St. Barbe. Mrs. Shedden called. Home at 7.
6 Thursday
Very fine morning. I went up “to the house” John went to Southampton at 2 for bricks, After Lunch I drove the children to the Beach. Sat there an hour & half. Drove to Lym & home.
7 Friday
Very fine day. Drove to the House in the morn: & sat up there. Again after lunch took Titt & sat there three hours. Titt very tired John went to Vicar’s Hill.
8 Saturday
Very fine day. John drove me to the house where I sat. Mr & Mrs Ashworth & Guy, & Captn Ellis there. After lunch John drove Titt & I in the pony cart with thin pony to Woodside & Lym: Had tea with Mrs. St.B and home Pony very fresh.
March 9
John Craig & Sister went to Church. It rained very hard. They walked a little in the afternoon. John dined at V.H.

10 Monday
John went to the Union. The children went to the farm in the morning. I stayed at home & worked.
11 Tuesday
Nice tho cold day. John met Bradford at the farm. I drove up in pony cart to the house. John went to the house in afternoon. Drove with dear Craig into Mrs. Frances St Barbe’s. Taken ill there. John went to the house about half past four, got home ½ past five, little Miss Dicky arrived at eight a clock Dr Hill Mrs St.B. & Mrs. Spracklin here.
12 Wednesday
Very fine day. Had a bad night, Mrs St. B. Stayed with me till half past five. Mrs. Daniell had a son. John went to Ringwood saw Mrs. Webber who was very ill. Dr. Hill came to see me. Many people called to enquire.
13 Thursday
Very fine day. Had a very bad night – very bad headache. The children went to the house in the morning, Dear Titt drove with his Papa in the afternoon. Mrs. St. Barbe & Mrs, Fluder called but did not see me. Dear Titt & Sister came into my room in evening.
14 Friday
Colder with sleet & hail, rather better night – Dr Hill called
15 Saturday
Very wet day. John went out hunting at Holmsley. Pretty good night, Dr. Hill called. The Children did not go out.
March 16
Very wet day. John went to Church in the morning. Dr. Hill called. Mr. Shrubb dined at V.Hill.

17 Monday
Beautiful day. Mr. Minnet & Captain Richardson lunched. Mr. Shrubb went rating with Mr. Mew at Mrs Butts farm. Mrs St. Barbe & Mrs. Peacocke came to see me, very tired & had headache – pretty good night – Dr. Hill called.
18 Tuesday
Beautiful day. Mr. Shrubb & Mr. H. Shrubb went up into the drive. The Children went to the farm in morning, after dinner went up to Vicar’s Hill. Mr. Shrubb went to Lymington drove tandem. Dr. Hill called. not very good night
19 Wednesday
Fine but very cold, Mr Shrubb went lunchtime at Winchester with Neville & deer Hounds. The Children went to the farm in the morning, Dr. Hill called.
20 Thursday
Very cold day. Mr. Shrubb went up into the drive. After dinner Mr. Shrubb went to Brockenhurst & Lymington. The Children went for a walk. Better night
21 Friday
Very cold day. Mr Shrubb went up into the Drive, The children went for a walk, after dinner they went round by Mr Falls caught in a snow storm. Dr Hill called, I got up early.
22 Saturday
Beautiful day. Mr. Shrubb went to Brockenhurst & to the house the Children went for a walk, after dinner Mr. Shrubb went to Lymington.
March 23
Did not go out. John took Craig to Church. C Shrubb lunched. J went to see Mr Mew. Dined at V.H. went to Mr. Ashworth’s.

24 Monday
Mrs. St. Barbe came & stayed all day – John went to the Union, to the house after lunch. Dr. Hill came. John drove Mrs. St. B. to Lymington. Fine day.
25 Tuesday
Very fine day. John drove Craig over to Brockenhurst to fetch dear Bess & Hay. Tom Peacocke called . Mrs. St. Barbe & Annie came out. Bess & Hay stayed till 7.30. John drove them to Lym. & he went to theatricals. Very tired.
26 Wednesday
Very fine day. I went out in the morning with the Baby. After lunch Mrs. Sam came to see me & Mrs Shedden, I went to bed very early. Captn Fawcett lunched here. John drove to Everton.
27 Thursday
Very warm day. Mrs. St. Barbe spent the day here. We walked in the garden. John was at the house all day. He drove Mrs. St. Barbe to Lym: in the afternoon Mr. Shrubb called.
28 Friday
Fine day. John drove the tandem to Bournemouth taking Captn Fawcett & Tom Peacocke. Mr Shrubb called to take me to Church. Aunt Mary & Lady Norbury came in the afternoon; John home at seven
29 Saturday
Fine day. John went to Lym: lunched at Rising Sun at Wootton. After lunch I walked round the Church with the children. Found Annie and Bella there, they sat the afternoon. John in at 5. Walked to the Farm.
March 30
Fine morning. Walked in garden etc. with little sister. Dickie & Craig went to Church. Captn. Sartorius lunched, John took him to the House, & dined at V.H. it rained hard.

31 Monday
Fine day. John went to Lymington after lunch. Dr. Hill came, I walked with Mrs, Spracklin to Hayward Farm. Tom Peacocke came
April
1 Tuesday
John got up early & went to Gatcomb Races. I walked to the house in the morning. After lunch drove to Efford. Very bad headache – John came at eight. Hay lost his train came home with John, they dined, he went by mailtrain to sleep.
2 Wednesday
Very fine day. Dreadful headache. Drove to the house in the pony cart. John went to Ringwood at 5. I took Titt in Mr. Shrubb’s carriage & payed many visits. Home at 5.
3 Thursday
Very fine morning. I walked with Mrs. Spracklin & the baby. John home at 1. After lunch John drove me with the tandem to Milford. Home through Lymington.
4 Friday
I walked up to the house with Mrs. Spracklin & the baby. After lunch Sister drove with me in Mr. Shrubb’s brougham to pay many calls, home at 4.30. It rained.
5 Saturday
John went to the house Birch there. I walked up. After lunch John drove me to the Farm & Lymington in the tandem, went to see Mary Hills baby, Mr & Mrs, Francis St. Barbe & sat at Annie’s.
April 6
Went to Church with John & Children. Heavy storm of hail & thunder. Lee here. Captain Price lunched. John dined at V.H.

7 Monday
John went to the Union. Fine cold day. Went to the House. After Lunch went for a drive – in the tandem. Dr. Hill came. John drove to EastEnd & then through Lym & home.
8 Tuesday
John went to the House. Dear Peyto came home for his Easter holidays. John met him at Brockenhurst & Mr. Shaw; after lunch John drove him back to Brock & he went to Lym: I went to the House with the children.
9 Wednesday
Very cold wind. John went to the house. After lunch drove me in the tandem to the Raitt’s, Prices, Mrs. Brown, Goodwyns & Agars etc. I had tea with Mrs. St. Barbe Mrs Shedden told me of Lewis’ engagement. Annie tead there.
10 Thursday
John Peyto & Beverley at the house. Mrs. St. Barbe lunched here; she walked home, I drove and met her. Went to see Annie Cameron & her boys, Also to see Annie, who was ill. Tea with Mrs. St. B.
11 Friday
I went to Church with Peyto & Beverley. Cold day. After church John went to Lym. The boys & I to the House & home.
12 Saturday
Fine day. John went to the Farm & to the House. After lunch he drove Peyto & I to Lym: we walked about with Mrs. Shedden. Went to see Annie. Saw Mr. Hammersley. The children & John & I walked to the House
April 13th
John Peyto Beverley Sister & I went to Church. Mrs. Ashworth came in afterwards, walked to House in the afternoon. John dined at V.H.

14 Monday
Cold day. The children went out & were home early. After lunch drove to see Athletic sports in Lymington at the Angel took Peyto & Titt. Had tea with Mrs. St. Barbe. Afterwards went to see very bad fireworks from the cricket field. Bad headache.
15 Tuesday
John went to the House. I was very tired & bad headache. After lunch went with Peyto to Southampton got him measured for clothes etc. Home to Lymington.
16 Wednesday
Very bad headache. Went to the drive with the children. After lunch drove with Dickie in the pony cart to Lym. Went to Miss Waldon’s rehearsal with Mrs. St. B. Dreadful headache, Came home & went to bed at 8 o’clock. Mr. Hammersley lunched here
17 Thursday
Went up to the House in the morning with John & the children in the afternoon John drove to Lym: I stayed in the Drive with the Children. Peyto went fishing I & Titt with him
18 Friday
John went to Southampton for bricks very early train; after lunch I drove to Lym: went to see Cousin Jane Mrs. Sam etc. with Peyto & Craig. Edward Holloway came, went over to meet John. John dined at Mr. Daniells. Home at 11.30. went to the Drive & caught in great storm.
19 Saturday
Went to the Drive in the morning, with Beverley etc; after lunch John drove me in the tandem to Everton etc. Very fine day, I sat with Mrs. Shedden & then went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s. After dinner walked to Vicar’s Hill.

April 20
Peyto Beverley Sister & I went to Church. John went to Marchwood. Dined at V.H. we walked there after tea.

21 Monday
John went to the Board. I went with little Miss Dickie to Mrs. Knapton’s, Mrs. Ashworth etc. After lunch Dickie drove with me to Lym. Mrs Farnall lunched. Went to see uncle Chinery. Sat with Mrs. St. Barbe – Walked to the Farm.
22 Tuesday
Went to Mrs. Hallett’s in the morn with Mrs. Spracklin & Ida, saw the big baby weighing 12 lbs; then walked to the Farm & home through the drive etc. Sat there with John in the afternoon, drove to Lym had tea with Annie. Sat with Aunt D.
23 Wednesday
John went to the Farm & then hunting with NFH at Markway Bridge. Walked to the Farm & drive with the children. After lunch drove to Mrs. Henry Daniell’s, Miss Neufville Mrs. Sam, Mrs, Hill Mrs Francis St. B. Mrs Shedden, Mrs Chinery, Mrs. St. Barbe etc. walked home from there.
24 Thursday
John drove Titt & Peyto to the Farm & Vicars Hill, I walked to the House, Mr. L Henry, & Guest Freeman lunched here – John drove me in the tandem to Lym: I sat with Mrs. St. B. Mrs Shedden & Miss Whyte there.
25 Friday
John drove Titt, Peyto & I to Brockenhurst, I went to Ringwood by 11 am train, spent a very pleasant day with dear Bess & Hay ……… most beautiful. Very cold day – Mrs. St. Barbe met me at Lym. John drove me home & Peyto.
26 Saturday
Letters from E. Elers etc. John went to the Farm, & then hunting at Penerleygate. Titt & the Dickies went to Vicar’s Hill. Read after lunch etc. Mrs. Shedden Miss Whyte & Mrs. Simmons Smith called. John & Lewis S. returned from hunting. John drove Peyto, Titt & I to Pilley & Lym; saw Hay & Tom.
April 27
Harri came very early. Drove over with Little Jack; it rained , did not go to Church. Tom lunched. Ida Marcia Augusta Christened in the afternoon, Harrie here for last time. Gone. John went to Thakers, I dined at Efford.

28 Monday
John went to the House with the children. After lunch John drove Titt Peyto & I to Lym. I saw Miss Oldmeadows, in the evening John went to a Cricket meeting, took Peyto & I to Mrs. St. Barbe’s.
29 Tuesday
Peyto & Titt up at the House all the morning. John hunting at Bolton’s Bench. At 1.44 drove in the van to Brockenhurst dear Peyto went to school, Lewis Shedden & John here. Lady Norbury called. Went to Lym in the dog-cart.
30 Wednesday
Took dear Titt to Miss Oldmeadow’s at 9 for the first time. Dickie drove with us. Went to Mrs. St. B’s. After lunch went to the house then to Lym. Called on Mrs. Sam. “Practising.” In the morning went with Mrs. Moens to the House . Went to the Farm with John. Did a deal of writing. Poor Mr. B. Mew died.

Up at 7. Went to Lym with dear Titt and Dickie, home at 10:40 Saw Mrs. St. B. Mrs Sheepshanks lunched afterwards drove with Adml:& Mrs Castle to the House, & then to Lym. Saw Cousin Jane. Went to see Annie, Mrs. St B. fetched Titt after dinner went to the House etc. to bed at 9. Bad headache.

Up at 7. Many letters. Drove to Lym: in pony cart taking Titt to school. Dickie went with us. Very fine day. Wrote many letters John at the Farm & house. After lunch John drove me to the house, then to Lym. Went to Stud Farm Stables. Fetched dear Titt, went to Vicar’s Hill with Maria.

I wrote in the morning. John drove Titt & I to the House, we walked home & were caught in the rain. Mr. Montgomery lunched. John drove me to Lym: with the tandem. Talked to Mrs. Warren & Louise. Sat with Mrs. St. Barbe. Miss Southbey there. Annie called. It rained a little.

Got up early. Beverley Sister & I went to Church. Edward & Mrs. Holloway & Captn Richardson lunched. John dined at VH.

Took Titt to school in the rain. Went to Annie’s saw Bella & Aunt D. came home. Wrote letters. John came from Ringwood at 1.30. Jane White notice please. John went to Lym. Titt came home from school. Letter from Mrs. Boyes. Wrote etc.

Went in to Lym: with dear Titt & Dickie – went to see Mrs. St. Barbe Miss Southby. John went to Marchwood. After lunch I went to Lym: to Miss Noake’s & Mrs. Sam St. Barbes. John home at 6.30 walked about in the garden. Very cold showers all day.

Took Titt in to school at quarter to nine; rained before we got home & was very wet all day. John went to the Farm & then to L. Mr Farnalls to lunch. Afterwards I drove to fetch dear Titt & sat at Annie’s all the afternoon.

Went to school with Titt & Dickey. John went to the Pardey’s. Went to fetch Titt after lunch, met Ethel & drove her about afterwards by Walhampton etc. C Shrubb here after tea – John & I walked to the house. Fine evening.

Very fine day. John drove Titt to school, went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s & brought her home to lunch, John went to the fair. After lunch he drove me to call on Mrs. Massey we were very tired. Dear Al came from Brock: in the tandem with John. Walked in the garden afterwards.

John & Titt drove to the House. Cold windy dull day. I drove to Lymington after lunch, & on to Hordle Mrs. Kennard not well; took Dickie & Pearse to the Beach & Titt. In the evening walked with John on the Farm.

Got up at a quarter to six met Bess & Hay at Brockenhurst went with them & Captn. Richardson to Totton by train, & drove from there to Stockbridge, a good day’s racing. Home at half past nine. Rather tired. A little rain in the morning.

John took Titt to Vicar’s Hill haymaking. I wrote put up flowers etc. After lunch John went again to Vicar’s Hill, then fetched me, he Titt & I drove to Roydon, Norley Wood, & Vicar’s Hill. In the evening walked to the house with John – headache.

Rather dull morning. John & Beverley went to the farm, Dickie & I walked in the garden – At 11.30 John & I drove to Lym: Lunched with Mrs. Cameron at Freshwater spent very pleasant day there, Henry photographed. John & I home at half past seven. Read to Titt.

John haymaking his father’s hay. I wrote many letters. After lunch I drove to Lym: sat some time with Mrs. St. Barbe had tea with her afterwards drove Aunt Mary & Annie Cameron to the House which they liked much. Walked to Vicar’s Hill in the evening – went to Annie’s.

Very fine day. Left home at 11 took Titt to Vicar’s Hill – we drove on to Marchwood. Very pretty there. Major & Mrs. Goold, Miss Brett Captain Yates there. Home at 6 Fetched Titt from Vicar’s Hill; the servants went to Alum Bay by moonlight. John went to the farm.
10 Thursday John went early to Ringwood Fair. Titt & Dickie in the garden. After lunch Titt & I drove to Annie’s & spent the afternoon with her & Bella. Drove to the House to meet the Ramus’. John bought a nice brown pony at Ringwood. Bad cold.

Fine day. John drove Titt and I to the House & turnip field till 12.30. After lunch I drove Dickie to Mrs. Hammersley’s, Mrs. Sam’s, Mrs. Fluder, Mrs. Hill’s. Heard of Annie Cameron’s boy’s dangerous illness. John went out in the evening, I walked in the lane with Titt.

Did not go out till 11. Took Titt to the drive. Gibson’s man Austin came down about laying out the garden. After lunch I put up flowers, John drove him to the House. I went up there at 4.30. Drove to Brockenhurst & home at 7 PM. Peyto came home with prize for good conduct & for keeping at top of form.

Went by early train to Southampton with Titt. Very hot. Home by 2 o’clock train. At 5 drove the bay pony to Lym: with Craig, Peyto, Dickie in the high dog-cart; coming home at Ampreys farm the poor pony fell, all thrown out. Mrs. Moens brought Dickie & I home. Sprained ankles knees etc. Mr Sayers Mrs. Ashworth etc called. Downton came.

John and Beverley went to the farm & to Lymington. At 12.30 went to meet Miss Princeps in the afternoon John drove her & Katie to the House, I went up in the donkey –chair, and to Vicar’s Hill. They all went to ball at Marchwood House at 4.15.

I wrote & worked . Packed Peyto & our things in the afternoon. Mrs. Castle called. In the evening walked round the garden with John & Peyto & gathered flowers for Alice. Very heavy rain – John went to Vicar’s Hill.

Peyto went to stay at Wimborne with Alice & Walter. At 12 John & I went to London. At 5.50 got to Ramsgate. Staying at the Granville Hotel. Heard this morn of the terrible death from overdose of chloroform of poor darling “Fran” at Brighstone.

Dreadful headache & cold in my head no sleep. Wrote. John & Hay out all day. Bess & I went on the dunes & in the afternoon sat on the Parade – after dinner sat there again – till 9 pm – Had salt water douche bath. Fine day.

Got up at 7.30 Had salt water douche. Wrote letters, Went out in the chair for two hours on the West Cliff. In the afternoon sat on the sands till six After dinner on the parade. Very fine day.

Very warm day. John Hay & Bess went to Deal & Dover. I wrote till three o’clock. Had a chair went into the town & then sat on the Pier till they came back at six. After dinner sat on the Parade. Table d’hote very full.

Very warm day. Bess & I sat out on the Parade. Walked in the town, met Hay & John. In the evening a very violent thunder storm. Bess & I watched the lightening after dinner. John not well. Poor little Fran buried at Milford today.

John not very well. Very warm; we went to Margate by train at 11. Walked about there, & sat on the Pier three or four hours; John came in the afternoon we went home at 5.30 to the Granville; Bess & I sat on the Parade after dinner.

Left Ramsgate at 11. Very warm day. John left us at Waterloo. Went to lodgings in Cecil Street. Hunted for a doctor in the afternoon, & did some shopping. In the evening went to see Kissi Kissi at the Opera Comique.

Peyto Beverley & Dickie went to Church. I stayed with little Dick. Mrs. St. Barbe here and Captn Price whom John drove home.

John not well. Could not go to shoot at Mr. Duplessis. Dr Hill came to see him. Very wet day. After lunch took dear Titt to school, took Dickie to see Mrs. Sam & Mrs. Hinuber. Home at 6.30. Bella went to Frankfort. John not out all day.

Very rainy morning. Dr. Hill called. We went to the House. After lunch Dickie & I drove to Lyndhurst called on Mrs. MacLea at Glasshayes; & spent the rest of the afternoon at the Dickinson’s. Captn Price called at 9.

Very stormy. After lunch drove to Lymington Sat with Annie Tom Symonds there. Then sat with Mrs. St.B. Came home at 7. Heavy thunderstorm.
4 Thursday
I drove to Lym: in the morning took Peyto & Dickie. Saw Mrs. St. Barbe. After lunch Edward Holloway drove tandem over here with Mr. Thand. John drove them to Lym: & I fetched him in the pony cart. Captn. Ellis & Mr. Ashworth called.

John drove Captn. Price & Mr. Ashworth to shoot at Marchwood, After Lunch I drove Warr & Dickie in the pony cart to Pennington Sat with Fran’s mother . Called on Mrs. Ellis. John home at 12
6 Saturday
John went to the Farm & House; then to Newtown to shoot Titt came home from school. Very showery. Mrs. Ellis & Mrs. William Rooke etc, called. I drove Titt to Newtown Pk to fetch John, sat with dear old Mrs. P, & Louise. It rained
September 7th
John Peyto & I went to Church. E. Elers first Sunday here & Elers lunched & went to the House. We drove & got very wet. Dined at VH

8 Monday
John went to the House. At 10.30 drove Titt to Lym. I took him & Dickie to Dr. Hill & then to Miss Oldmeadow’s. I sat with Aunt D & Annie. After lunch drove to Hincheslea, the Morant’s, Mrs. Moens etc. Spracklin fell from the machine.
9 Tuesday
John went to the farm & House. It rained very hard. Peyto went to Mr. …. After lunch John drove me to Lym. I sat with Mrs. St. Barbe. Peyto walked from Lymtn. I wrote many letters
10 Wednesday
Showery morning. Mr. Duplessis, Mr Ashworth & Edward R. shot with John. Killed 11 brace & 4 hares. Peyto went to Mr. Moens. After lunch I drove Warr & Dickie to Pennington. I called on Mrs. Lewis Shedden & then sat with Julie Symonds – Edward dined her. Bad headache.
11 Thursday
Bad headache. Peyto fishing down the river with Edward & Eddie. John went to the house I wrote several letters. In the afternoon drove to Pylewell Mrs. Howard Rooke, Weld’s had tea at Cousin Jane’s Alice Strange there.
12 Friday
John shot with Mr. Duplessis. I wrote in the morning. After lunch I drove to Lym: & sat with Annie who was not well then went to Newtown P. Saw dear old Mrs. P. and Louise, Julie S. there. John drove me home. Went in the morn: to see Spracklin who had met with an accident. He fell from the threshing machine.

Very wet day. John went to the House. After lunch he drove me to Lym: I sat with Mrs. St. Barbe. Titt came home.
September 14th
Went to Church in the morning with Peyto, Beverley, Dickie & John. John dined at VH. Captain Richardson & Mr. Hammersley lunched.

15 Monday
John went to the farm & House. I drove Peyto & Titt to Lym: in the pony-cart. Peyto went to “Mr Evans” We were caught in several heavy showers. After lunch took Titt to school. Called and sat with Annie. Home at 7. John went to Lym: to see Mr. Brett.
16 Tuesday
John went shooting with Mr. Brett at Bashley. Peyto gone to the House. After lunch I drove Warr and the Dickies to Lymtn. Did not get home till 5. At 6. started to Southampton with Mrs. St B. More than delighted with Ristori in Schiller’s Marie Stuart. Met her at S.W. Hotel. Home at 2.
17 Wednesday
Very tired. Drove Mrs. St. B. & the children to the House. John had Captn Ellis & Captn. Price shooting. Killed 14 brace. Mrs. St. B. drove to Lym: with us. Sat with her then home with John. Went to bed very early.
18 Thursday
John went to the Farm & House. I took Titt & the Dickies for a drive after lunch to Milford & back to Pennington etc. Poor Peyto went back to school Titt do: at 5 pm I went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s, spent the evening there. Saw Annie, and home at 10.15.
19 Friday
John went to Lym: etc. At 10.45 I went to Southampton with Mrs. St. B. After lunch went to a concert by Lemiens Sherrington Stabat Mater very grand. Came home with John at 6 – Edward Elers came down in the evening.
20 Saturday
Went to the House with John, saw the tarring outside wood plastering etc. Then fetched Titt. After lunch John went to Lym; I drove Titt to call on the Dales at Bartley Lodge. Home at six
September 21st
Did not go to Church in the morn: Beverley, John & Dickie did. John walked to Lym.

22 Monday
John busy preparing for his Harvest Home. After lunch I drove to Lymington sat with Annie. Called on Miss Harding etc. Drove to Newton Park, found Mrs. Peacocke & Louise at home. Drove Edward Elers from there home. Very fine day.
23 Tuesday
Very fine day. John busy at the House & Farm. Had his Harvest Home. 35 men to dinner. I went with John to Lym: Called on Mrs. Street. John had tea at Mrs. St. Barbe’s!!! I went to a party at Mrs. Brown’s house at 12. Took Warr to Pennington.
24 Wednesday
Mr. Duplessis Edward Holloway, Mr Ashworth shot with John – Very fine day. Mrs. St. Barbe lunched here; afterward drove with her & Dickie to Bashley to view Hilliard’s Sale; home by Delawarr Crozier’s not at home, Dickie & I tead with Mrs. St. B. John shot 13 brace.
25 Thursday
Very fine day. John went to the house & to the Eler’s – I worked & wrote. After lunch Julie Symonds & Henrietta Tyndal & her two daughters called, also Aunt Mary. Aft. Drove Dickie & Warr to Lymington in the pony cart.
26 Friday
Very fine warm day. John shot Captn. Price & Mr. Ashworth with him. After lunch I drove to Milford called on Mrs. Brockett etc. My birthday. Went to see Annie & home. Drove up in the morning with Warr & the Dickies to see the House. Called on Mrs. Hicks.
27 Saturday
Very fine day. White went to the Church took dog-cart. John to Lym: the house & farm. I went to the Church to do a little Harvest decoration. After lunch drove to Lym; with John who went to Mr. Hammersleys bowls. I called on Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Street, & sat with Mrs. St.B.
September 28th
John, Beverley, Dickie & I went to Church. Harvest thanksgiving Mr. Knapton preached in the morn: Mr. Hammersley lunched. Mr. Daniell went to Church with me in the afternoon. Dined at VH

29 Monday
I went to Lym; in the afternoon took Titt to school – went to see Mrs. St. B. Sat with Annie etc. Packed up. At 8. went down to Ringwood found dear Bess, Hay Mr. Matthey, Mr.Jennins there.
30 Tuesday
Hay John Mr. Matthey etc went out shooting. Bess & I drove to Fordingbridge & took the train to Salisbury, walked about there & shopped. Very warm day. Home at 6.30. John went home by train at 8.30.

1 Wednesday
Bess & I put up flowers, walked to the Post Office & Railway Station. Went to see Mrs Webber, Mr. Parkin & Mr. Bronncker. Dined at the M.H.
2 Thursday
Hay went to Wimborne early for his coursing meeting we went by train at 12. Found Alice & Walter at home. After lunch went to Mrs. Druitt’s & Mrs. Clarke’s had tea with Al., her boys very nice, poor Wal looked ill.
3 Friday
John, Hay, Mr Matthey, Mr Jennins went by 10 train to shoot at Rodlease – Bess & I put up flowers. They returned at six50. John much disappointed at having a very bad day.
4 Saturday
John went home by the first train at 8. After lunch Bess and I drove to call on Mrs. Mills and Mrs. Lucas at Sopley, both out, John came down by evening train.
October 5th
Bess & I went to church in the morn. Alice & Wal came in the day & dined. Bess and I went to church in the even (/p>

6 Monday
Lady Caroline, Ba, & the Missies came up in the morning, very fine day. At 12 I went in the wagonette with the Missies to meet Craig, Dickie & Warr who came to spend the Missie’s birthday. We had a very nice day, and we all went home at 6. Dick very tired.
7 Tuesday
Very wet day. John went to the house & farm. After lunch John drove Titt and I to Lym: Titt to school, I sat with Mrs. St. Barbe worked. Mrs Tyndal could not come.
8 Wednesday
Fine day. Warr went to Lym. After lunch I drove Dickie & Warr to Lym: Warr went home. Dick & I drove to call on Mrs. Tindal then on Mrs. Fawcett went to Lym. Call on Mrs. Sam, Annie etc. John shot in the Forest, & then went to Lym.
9 Thursday
Went for a walk in the morn: John went shooting in the Forest with Mr. Mew. Very wet day. After lunch the Miss Hardings came, & sat the afternoon. John came home at seven
10 Friday
In the morning, I walked with the children and Warr to the House. John went to Vicar’s Hill and to the House. After lunch drove Dickie to Lym: Raffled for L. Hockelys’ musical box. Sat with Mrs. St. B. & home. John went to Marchwood.
11 Saturday
Bess and Hay came at 11.50. After lunch wet to Lym; went to see Mrs. Sam: and Annie, had tea with her. John came home at 7. October 12th
Raining all day. Bess & I & Titt went to church in the rain twice. Edward & Fred: Elers came in the afternoon.

13 Monday
Very showery day. John drove Hay to see the pony in the marshes. I drove Bess & Titt to the House and then to Vicar’s Hill. They went away at 1.30. After lunch I drove to Lym: had tea with Mrs. Francis St B. Miss Bell, Mrs. Shedden, Mrs. Towsey & Annie there. Heard of poor Mr. Freeman’s illness.
14 Tuesday
Showery day. I wrote in the morning afterwards I drove to Lym: and then to Efford, The poor Peacockes I saw for the first time since poor Grannie’s death. Fetched Titt from school. Poor Mr. Freeman died.
15 Wednesday
John went out shooting with Mr Kennard & his nephew and Captn. Price. At 11 I went with Titt to Brockenhurst for the Church took him to see Mr. Watmough. Had lunch with dear Bess. Very showery day. Dear Titt very tired.
16 Thursday
Very fine warm day. I walked with the children towards Hayward Farm. Mr. Shaw came down. Drove him to Mrs. Weldon’s. I went to Annie’s. Dear Titt went to for a ride on the pony.
17 Friday
John went out shooting in the Forest with Mr. Mew. I went to the house with dear Titt & Dickies. After lunch dear Titt rode to Lym. I called on Mrs. Knapton & Mrs. Ashworth, came home with the children. John home at 6 pm. Very fine day.
18 Saturday
John went to the Farm in the morning. I walked with the Children to the House; after lunch Titt rode to Lymtn. I drove to call on Mrs. Price, had tea with Mrs. Raitt. Went to see Annie for a few minutes. John went out shooting brought home ferns chestnuts, moss etc.
October 19th
I went to Church with dear Titt in the morning & after lunch with John. He dined at Vicar’s Hill.

20 Monday
Titt went for a ride in the morning, after lunch I took him to Miss Oldmeadow and Dickie and I had tea at Mrs. Hinuber’s. John drove us home. Edward dined here. Poor Mr. Freeman buried. John went to the funeral with Mr. Shrubb.
21 Tuesday
John went to the house, after lunch he drove me to Lym: I went to Efford. Wet dull day. Tom sailed for India.
22 Wednesday
John went out shooting as soon as it cleared up Mr. Ashworth & Edward shot with him. After lunch Mrs. Ashworth called. John drove me to Lym: I sat with Aunt D. Titt’s pony took him for a ride.
23 Thursday
I went out in the morning. Edward Elers and Mr. Shrubb called here. John drove me to Lymtn after Lunch. I sat with Annie during a very wet afternoon. Drove Mr. Ashworth home.
24 Friday
John shot with Mr. Mew in the Forest. I went with the children & Warr to the farm and the House – were caught in a dreadful storm of rain & got very wet. Went to Lym and met Al with Annie & drove her home with “Miss Cole” – dined at Vicar’s Hill.
25 Saturday
Al & I & Dick went to the House. John drove to Lym & fetched Titt. After lunch John drove us to Lym: went to see Aunt Mary & Annie. Shopped, went to tea at Mrs. Sam’s, very pleasant tea. Mr. Shrubb & the Elers dined here.
October 26th
John Titt, Al & I went to Church. Captain Fawcett lunched. Mr. Daniell called. We walked round Sandy Down with children.

27 Monday
John went to the Farm & to the House. Al & I worked & wrote. Darling Titt went for a ride round Sandy Down, Sway etc. After lunch called on Mrs. Cornwallis West. Took my Titt to school had tea at Mrs. Towsey’s sat with Annie – John dined with Mr. George Brett at the Angel.
28 Tuesday
John went away early to Bashley to shoot with Mr. Brett. Al went away by morning train. I went over to NewPark and sat the afternoon with Mrs. Dickinson. John home at seven
29 Wednesday
Captn. Price breakfasted here & drove John over to shoot with Edward Holloway. Mrs. Wilks & Mrs. Macleay called. I drove to Marchwood at 5. Dinner party of Hollands, Carlyles etc. To bed at 1 am. No sleep.
30 Thursday
Most severe headache. Could do nothing all day – Home at 2.30 Captn. Price drove John to Southampton & then home.
31 Friday
Got up at 6. Met Bess at Brockenhurst & went to London by train at 8.11 Got there at 11. Went to Field’s, Smith’s, Pearce’s, Burlington etc. Home by 5 train at 9.30. Very tired. John shot with Mr. Duplessis

John went to the Farm & then fetched dear Titt. It rained in the afternoon. John drove me to Lymtn I sat at Mrs. St. Barbe’s Annie there. Edward Elers dined here.

Wet morn: John went to Church. I read to the children Took Titt to Church in the afternoon. John dined at VH

John went to the Board. Drove me to Lym: I went to Mrs. St. barbe’s. Very fine day. After lunch took dear Titt to Ringwood had tea with dear Bess and Hay: Mr Watmough saw my darling. Home at 7.30

Fine day. John shot in the Forest with Mr. Mew. I walked to the Farm with dear Titt & Dickie. After lunch Titt rode to school and I drove to Julie Symond’s then to Lym: & to Mrs. Sam’s - John very tired

John went out hunting. The Hounds met at Brockenhurst Bridge. He came home at two. I sat with Mrs. Moore and then went to Mrs. St. Barbe’s – went for a walk with her round the Waterford & the Baths
November 9th
Went to Church with Craig, John, Dickie & I. John dined at Vicar’s Hill.

10 Monday
Very wet day – John could not shoot with Mr. Mew at Ipsley. After lunch he drove me to Lym: took Titt to school. I went to tea with Mrs. Francis St. Barbe. Mary Hockings etc. there. Aferwards went to Mrs. St. B’s & sat there.
11 Tuesday
John went to the Forest shooting. After lunch I went with Dickie to meet Mrs. Mackinnon. She went with me to Mrs. St. Barbe’s musical afternoon, Mrs. Kennard, Miss Wood, Mrs. Shedden there.
12 Wednesday
Walked to meet Mrs. St. Barbe at Boldre, she went with us to the House. Mrs. St. B. lunched. Then drove to Lym: from there to Milford Called on Mrs. West & on Julie, came home. Very cold.
13 Monday
John went out shooting. After lunch drove to Lymington – Called on Mrs. Francis, Annie, etc. In the evening went to a musical party at Mrs. Sam’s. John went to a circus. We had tea at the Castles’.
14 Friday
John went out shooting with Captns Ellis & Preston nr Ringwood. I went to Lym. & saw the pony in the marsh. Drove round Pennington and “the Rose.” Walked to Boldre Church – Called at Vicar’s Hill.
15 Saturday
John went out shooting. Mrs. Mackinnon drove me to Vicar’s Hill and then to Lym. Fetched dear Titt. After Lunch Mrs. Towsley & her children, Mrs & Miss Castle drank tea here. Mrs. Wilkinson & Mrs. Knapton called.
November 16th,/br> John, Mrs. Mackinnon, Titt & I went to Church. Captn Ellis & Captn P lunched. Walked to the Farm. John dined at VH

17 Monday
John gone to the House then to V.H. to fetch Uncle Henry. I went to Lymington afterwards with Mrs. Mackinnon and drank tea with Mrs. St. Barbe. The Towseys, Castles, Mrs. Sam etc. there; John drove us home.
18 Tuesday
John went out shooting. After lunch I drove to Lymington & Mrs. Mackinnon went away by the 2 pm train. I took Dickie to Efford where we had tea. Julie Symonds there; Mr & Mrs Dacre came there.
19 Wednesday
John went out shooting. In the afternoon Dickie and I drove to the Beach it was rather cold.
20 Thursday
I went to Mrs. Hamerslys & Dickie had tea there.
21 Friday
Met the Miss Hamersleys at the Lodge, went with a them to the House. They lunched, afterwards went to see Mrs. St. Barbe. Dined at Brockenhurst – Home at 12.
22 Saturday
John went hunting. I went at 2 o’clock to Mr. Fletchers Concert at Brockenhurst, drove Mrs. Ashworth.
November 23rd
Did not go to Church in the morning. After lunch Mr Shrubb drove me down to the shore at Pitts Deep

24 Monday
Dear Titt did not go to school he & Dickie had bad colds. John drove me to Lymington to Mrs. St.Barbes, Mr Elers fetched me. Mr. Elers dined.
25 Tuesday
Heard of Mrs Francis St. Barbes death. Took Mrs. Fluder Christmas plum puddings, had tea with Mrs. Fluder, the children did not go over.
26 Wednesday
Mr, Mrs, Miss Clement Dale, Captain Price & Miss Taylor lunched , very wet day. The Children went out a little time in the evening. Mr & Mrs. Trant came.
27 Thursday
Very wet morning, in the afternoon Mrs. Trant & I drove to the Beach. Mr Shrubb & Mr. Trant went to Lymington.
28 Friday
Mrs. Trant & I took the children for a walk, little Grizzlekins’ cold bad: in the afternoon drove to call on Mrs. Bagot, home by Hatchet Pond.
29 Saturday
Spent a very pleasant day with Dear Bess at Ringwood, came home by the 6.36 train. Grizzlekins cold better. Poor Mrs. Francis St. B. buried.
November 30th
Mr & Mrs Trant went to Chapel in the morn: Mr. Shrubb & I went to Church. Mr. Holloway lunched & drove them to dine & sleep at Marchwood

1 Monday
Mr& Mrs. Holloway lunched. Mr & Mrs Trant went away by 1.20 train from Brockenhurst. I drove Mrs. Holloway to Lymington, took Dear Titt to Miss Oldmeadow’s. I went to Mrs. St. Barbes
2 Tuesday
Mrs. Shedden & Mrs. St Barbe drove to the House.
3 Wednesday
John & Mr Elers hunted at Wimborne. After lunch I drove to Efford.
4 Thursday
Went to see Miss Oldmeadow. Walked about Lymington with Mrs. St. Barbe.
5 Friday
Left Rodlease at ten – got to Brighton at 3.20. Stayed at New Steine Hotel. Took lodgings at 8 New Steine. Went to hear dance at the Pavilion.
6 Saturday
John & I went out shopping in the morning. Dickie & Warr arrived at 3.20. Went to the Aquarium in the evening.
December 7th
In morning took Dickie for a walk, sat till 5 PM on the Parade. Went to St. Paul’s in evening.

Went to see the sights at 10 a.m. Went to the Aquarium.

Went to see the sights at 10 a.m. Mr Shrubb went home

Went out early in the morning with John Peyto, Dickies & Warr, then they walked on the Parade.
18 Thursday
Went in the evening to hear Semiramide with Tietiens and Trebelli as Arsace. My cold very bad. Peyto & I went to the Aquarium.

Went out in morning with John Peyto & Dickie, after lunch Peyto & I went to call on Mrs. Rowley. Saw the Hawkesworths in the evening went to hear Don Giovanni
20 Saturday
Left Brighton at ten. Got home at 3. Beautiful day. Went in to see dear Titt, found him very happy & looking pretty well. Had tea with Mrs. St. Barbe, Mrs, Shedden there, saw Miss Neafield
December 21st
Peyto went to Church & John. Stayed in all day for my cold. John dined at VH

22 Monday
Walked to the house in the morning with Peyto & Dickie. It rained when we came home. After lunch drove to Lym. Walked about with dear Bess. Letter from poor Aleck. Went & sat with poor Uncle Chinery whom I thought much altered & ill. Sat with Aunt D.
23 Tuesday
Peyto fetched dear Beverley from school he went to Woodside etc. John went shooting in the Forest with Mr. Mew. In the afternoon I called on Mrs. Ellis & spent the afternoon at Mrs. Byrne’s house.
24 Wednesday
John shot at Pylewell. I wrote letters. After lunch drove to enquire for Mrs. Price, & then called on Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Maturin & Mrs Daniell. Had tea with Mrs. St. Barbe, John drove me home.
25 Thursday
John, Peyto, Beverley & I went to Church in the morning. After lunch we all walked to the House & from there to the Farm. In the evening we dined at Vicar’s Hill. Had the mummers at house. Poor Titt had the ear ache.
26 Friday
Beverley not well. John and Peyto went shooting in the Forest at Hoe; home at 4. Mrs. Ellis called. I drove over to Brockenhurst to see old Mrs. Smith who looked well & was kind. John went to Lym.
27 Saturday
John went to the house to meet Miller about laying out the garden. Very wet morning. It cleared up afterwards, Peyto drove with me to call on Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. W Rooke. Went to Lees and to Mr Oake’s about Peyto going there. Peyto & I walked home the first time I had done so for six months since our accident.

29 Monday
John went to the Union. After lunch I drove Peyto to Lym.tn I had tea with Mrs. Sam.
30 Tuesday
John went out in the Forest. I drove the pony cart to Lym; with Dickie and Warr & Grizzlekin after lunch I went to Efford.
31 Wednesday
Went for a walk. After lunch John drove Peyto & me to Lymtn fetched Mr. Marett from the station – Walked home with him & Peyto. Drove to Genl. Taylors."
