Each Friday morning at Durlston Court School in Barton on Sea, New Milton, we record articles taken mainly from the New Milton Advertiser and Lymington Times for distribution to 160 people who are blind or partially-sighted. Currently our listeners are provided with the weekly news on either a memory stick or cassette tape or CD.
To produce and distribute the weekly newspaper, we have a team of volunteers who undertake a variety of roles including editing and reading newspaper articles and despatching the recordings by post in wallets. We work to a published roster and most volunteers attend the studio once a month, or more for holiday cover etc.
We are urgently seeking volunteers for the role of sound technician. The technician records 3 readers via a multi-channel mixer desk and Adobe Audition software producing master recordings on a standalone PC in MP3 format (for memory sticks) and Windows PCM.WAV (for Cassette tapes and CDs).
We are looking for people who have some experience with computers and an interest in recording sound. New volunteers would be trained by an experienced member of the team, two of whom are involved with New Forest Hospital Radio in Lymington. Sound Technicians need to be available between 08.45 am and 10.45 am on a Friday morning, normally once a month.
