Notes about the Scripts & Tapes Selected for Digitisation/Scanning

Six scripts were chosen to be scanned and the tapes re-recorded on CD and memory stick:

A few notes were compiled about each:

1. Title: Walk Round New Milton/Barton

Number of Music Tracks: 30

Date Tape Issued: 2.1.1989 (Tape 217)
Date Delivered to Solent Mead/Linden House: 2.2.1989
Notes about Tape & Script: This may be the first tape with Maddy’s new signature tune, The Entertainer
Notes about the Content: Written in the 1980’s there are references to previous occupants of shops etc, e.g. Aldersons and Safeways.

2. Title: Lymington

Date Broadcast on Hospital Radio: 27.4.1986 (Tape 13)
Date Tape Issued: 1.11.1994 (Tape 302)
Date Delivered to Solent Mead/Linden House: -
Notes about Tape & Script: When the script was re-recorded the last 3 paragraphs were cut out.
Notes about the Content: There are many references to previous use of buildings etc.
- Lymington Hospital (a new hospital was mooted)
- The Lyric Cinema
- The old library
- CAB
- Kings bookshop
- Woolworths
- Linden House for the Blind

3. Title: Dorset

Number of Music Tracks: 30

Date Tape Re-Recorded: 2.1.1992 (Tape 252)
Date Delivered to Solent Mead/Linden House: 30.3.89
Notes about Tape & Script: An extra paragraph was added after Lawrence of Arabia with the music track, Wonderful World. There should have been reference to the church at Bere Regis having a painted timber “roof” not room.
Notes about the Content: When the script was written, no agreement had been made to refurbish Highcliffe Castle.

4. Title: Isle of Wight

Number of Music Tracks: 31
Date Broadcast on Hospital Radio: 11.10.1987 (Tape 82)

Date Delivered to Solent Mead/Linden House: 15.1.1990
Notes about Tape & Script: The script was retyped 6.1.1990
Notes about the Content: Refers to the 7 Wonders of the Island with, “Lake that can’t be sailed” deleted! Some changes have occurred since, e.g. the train no longer runs from Ryde to Ventnor

5. Title: Secrets of the Forest

Number of Music Tracks: 33
Date Broadcast on Hospital Radio: -
Date Tape Issued: 15.4.1994 (Tape 298)

Notes about Tape & Script:
It is Des O’Connor sings Raindrops not Perry Como! At the end of the tape, there was not room to record the paragraph before Petula Clark’s Thank You
Notes about the Content:
The tape is really the History & Secrets of the Forest

6. Title: New Forest Quiz

Number of Music Tracks: 33 (after 33 questions in the Quiz)
Date Broadcast on Hospital Radio: 15.2.1987 (Tape 50)
Date Tape Issued: 15.11.1991 (Tape 249)
Date Delivered to Solent Mead/Linden House: 16.2.1989
Notes about Tape & Script:
The clues are quite hard! One or two changes – at that time there was a café on Hythe Pier and a restaurant in Sway Tower.
Notes about the Content:
Unusually there was a song from June Whitfield, who was initially a song and dance artist as well as an actress.

I am very grateful to Neil Eccles at the New Milton Talking Newspaper who re-recorded the 6 cassette tapes onto CD and memory stick. He also scanned the scripts of the 6 tape recordings onto memory stick..
