Are we related to Joan Hughes, the woman aviator?

We would obviously like to prove that John Hughes (and his son John Hughes) is related to Joan Hughes, the Woman Aviator. At present, we have not established a link even though the 2 families lived in the Loughton area. 

Ann Matilda Gardiner had a daughter Caroline who married John Hughes Junior. The family lived in Mile End New Town (1851 and 1861) and Bethnal Green (1871 and 1881).

John wsa a blacksmith until the couple took over at the Gardeners Arms in Loughton (1891, 1901, 1911).

It would be interesting to know, Why Loughton? Also the entry in the 1921 Census.

The key to the puzzle is finding John Hughes in the 1841 Census and finding out who his grandparents were.
