The Bower & Collier Family History

Research by Colin Bower

Silk Weavers named Collier

Who bought colour products from Henry Brecht?

I have spent a long time on conducting research into the Spitalfields Silk Industry.

I thought it was all over but it wasn't!

Aims

As well as trying to find a link bewteen Huguenot Silk Weavers and Charles Collier, Weaver, I have wanted to find out if my ancestor Henry Brecht sold colour products to those engaged in the Silk Industry, for example dyers.

Miscellaneous Information Obtained

I had obtained information from the V & A and traced some manufacturers/dyers.

I first followed up the information without discovering anything new. On a rainy October day, I googled the Silk Industry in Bethnal Green rather than Spitalfields.

I was taken aback by the amount of information available including the following websites:

1. Women's History: Spitalfields

2. Huguenot Silk Weavers: Our Migration Story

3. Huguenot Pattern Designers

4. James Leman & Anna Maria Garthwaite

5. Spitalfields Life: James Leman

6. Designing Spitalfields Silk

7. Alice Pike

8. Weavers Fields

9. Stanley Rondeau

10. Paul Blumsons's History

11. Sarah Holdsworth & Thomas Parker

12. Trade Cards & Bill Heads

13. Hollings Family

14. Prize Winners

15. Manufacturers in Spitalfields

16. Delaforce Family

17. Talented Designers

18. The Homewood & Dowsett Lines

19. The London Hilliards

20. History of Warner & Sons/a>

21 Janet Coles' Family History

22. Business Letter 1898

23 Life of Ann Dighton

24. The Mecham Family

25. The Duthoits

There was a lot of miscellaneous information some of which I have listed in an Appendix:

Miscellaneous Appendix

I think that this has to conclude my research into the Silk Industry. But you never know!
