The Books & Other Publications divide nicely into 2 groups:

1. Main Sources

I identified 4 main books that I felt were sufficiently representative:

- Monarchy, Magnates and Institutions in the Anglo-Norman World
by C. Warren Hollister 1986

- William Rufus
by Frank Barlow 2000 (First Edition 1983)

- The Death of Rufus
by Arthur Lloyd 2000

- The New Forest, Its History and Scenery
by John R. Wise

Each has been named as a source in other publications.

These will be studied closely and a separate report written.

2. Other Publications

These are almost entirely from the internet, plus

- the book The White Ship which has a relatively brief description of the death of William Rufus but then again it is a book about William's brother who became Henry I.

- the thesis, Kinship and the transmission of power in Geffrei Gaimar's Estoire des Engleis
written by Gemma Wheeler 2017

- an article from our local newspaper, Reflections on King William Rufus, written by local historian Nick Saunders 2019

In the end, I searched the internet under:

- William Rufus
- The Rufus Stone
- Walter Tirel
- Geffrei Gaimar
- Wace sometimes referred to as Robert Wace
- Malwood Castle/Keep

In particular, I looked for any items from the Hampshire Record Office and Reading Museum, which I was considering visiting.

There are almost too many articles on the internet! In the end I had to limit myself to 26, though I was still finding out more the more I researched!.
