Introduction
This Statistical Analysis examines when the Calling Book was used, places that were mentioned and the number of calls received and made:
When the Calling Book was used
It appears that the Calling Book was used during the years 1883 - 1893. It is difficult to be more precise as after 1891, the Victorian lady did not record the relevant years.
After an initial enthusiastic start, this Calling Book was used spasmodically sometimes for brief periods (*) and sometimes for a concentrated period (**). The book was used for visits (York, Galway and Leeds) but hardly used between 1886-1890:
1883

Number of Calls
Statistically there were approx 277 names listed in the Calling Book.
The call was usually from or to another lady or perhaps a group of ladies. Some times men were present, e.g. a number of military men are listed in Galway, and on a number of occasions when couples had been invited, e.g. when the lady returned from York in June 1883.
The calls may be further divided (total number of people in brackets):
1883-1893
Lymington area 208 (117)
1883
York 6 (6)
1885
Galway 57 (46)
1888 (?)
Leeds 6 (6)
(Sion Place, Sion Hill)
Totals 277 (175)
As shown in the Names Index, it appears that the Victorian lady met a number of people more than once
Calls Received and Calls Made
The total number of calls was:
Calls Received - approx 120
Calls Made - approx 160 (including 57 "made" in Galway)
I cannot be more accurate because the use of ticks etc is difficult to decipher. Also there are straight lists of names which may have been people received or visited.
The calls may be broken down as follows:
